Orange and Blue Brigade Marching Band-  All members of the band program grades 10 through 12 are required to participate in this group. Freshmen may choose to audition for this group if they have a serious interest in participating in marching band. 

 

Wind Ensemble- The top concert group at Olathe East is the Wind Ensemble. Students wishing to participate in this group must complete an audition. Unlike other years where students prepared a taped audition this year the auditions will be held live at Olathe East. The auditions will be held in April. Audition information will be distributed to students in March.  It will also be avialable for students on the Charms site at this time as well.

 

Drumline-  The most competitive group to audition into at Olathe East is the drumline.  On average we have around 40 percussionists at Olathe East.  All students grades 10-12 are expected to participate in the drumline.  The audition is primarily to determine which instrument they will play during marching season.  Freshmen are encouraged to not audition for the drumline as freshmen, however, if they are advanced students it is possible for them to audition.  The drumline audition packet will be delivered to students (including current 8th graders) around February.  After it is delivered to students it will be posted on the Charms site.  Live auditions are usually held in April.

 

Symphonic Band/Concert Band-  Both of these groups are open groups that do not required auditions. Symphonic Band is primarily a Sophomore/Junior group and Concert Band is primarily freshmen who did not march.

 

Jazz Band- The top jazz ensemble at Olathe East is called the NightHawks Jazz Band. This group is by audition depending on instrumentation and student requests. The first semester jazz band is an open group that does not require any audition. The Olathe East Jazz Combo is also an audition only group. Students interested in audition for Nighthawks or the Jazz Combo should contact Mr. Smikahl by email.
